Respondent behavior-acions that are automaic responses to a simulus. Operant condiioning-organisms associate their own acions with consequences. Operant behavior-behavior that operates on the environment to produce rewarding or punishing simuli: skinner"s experiments. Law of efect-rewarded behavior is likely to recur. Operant chamber- skinner box has a buton that animal presses to release a reward of food or water. Shaping-procedure in which reinforcers guide the animal toward a desired behavior (closer and closer to hiing reward buton: successive approximaions) Discriminaive simulus- green traic light signals that a response will be reinforced. Reinforcer-any event that strengthens (increases frequency of) a preceding response. Posiive reinforcement-strengthens a response by presening a typically pleasurable simulus ater a response. Negaive reinforcement-strengthens a response by reducing/removing something undesirable or unpleasant. Primary reinforcers-geing food when hungry or having a painful headache go away are unlearned. Condiioned reinforcers- secondary reinforcers get power through learned associaion with primary reinforcers (light buton for food, etc. )
