Public policies address problems that are public, or more importantly, that some number of people think should be public instead of private. Modern political theory begins in the fifteenth century when niccolo machiavelli wrote. The prince for his patron to provide him with practical political advice. He argued that if we understood and plan the political actions we take in pursuit of our goals, we are better prepared to seize political opportunities that arise in normal course of political life. The prince depended on postulates which are statements about how we think the political world works and argues that we should compare these postulates to the conduct of real world politics. The enlightenment is a term used to describe a philosophic movement of early 18th century, new developed political and social philosophies based on reason and insights from natural sciences. Montesquieu greatly influenced american politics, and ratification of the constitution. Notable political philosophers thomas hobbes, john locke, and jean-jacques.
