Authority- legitimate non coercive exercise of power. Political system that denies ordinary citizens representation by and control over their own government. Political power in hands of few elites. Does not gain power by being elected or through succession. Governments ruled by a king or queen. Sovereignty is vested in a successive line or rulers. Royal figures whose powers are defined by a political charter and limited by a governing body. Citizens share in directing the activities of their government rather than being ruled by an autocratic individual or authoritarian group. Not only a political system but also a philosophy.
