Organizations are the primary mechanisms by which individuals (and their firms) come together to create desired outcome. Can copy a strategy by it is hard to imitate a unique organizational design. Organization is a collection of individuals working together to advance the strategic objectives of the firm. Successful firms modify and adjust their organizations and culture to fit changing contextual situations. Strategy is what a firm wants to accomplish, organizations are the means by which the strategy is implemented, evaluated, and modified. Ex: fbi: reorganizing intelligence to be the most important feature and then criminal investigators second, all efforts would now be lead by intelligence. Organizational design the formal systems, levers, and decisions an organization adopts or employs in pursuit of its strategy. Some believe organization and strategy are co aligned, not hierarchical. Without a well-defined organization firms will struggle to develop and maintain a competitive advantage.
