Youth (15-24) yrs in canada more likely to suffer from: mental illnesses, substance dependencies, suicide. Mindfulness- paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in present moment & non- judgmentally: superpower (jon kabat-zinn) Phil jackson uses meditation &mindfulness in basketball. My grandma (brownie- 1903-1997: she was on her roof wanting to get coronation st, not everyone ages the same way. Assumptions of aging were destroyed: despite incr disability & limited financial resources: A- green space, mixed-used design, accessible transport, public spaces, safe streets. Environments- places where we live, work, play; social and phys spaces. Places aren"t just backdrops to life but social spaces where ppl interact & live. Aging in place- 92% cdn seniors live in private households/at home. Limited public health incr concern of economic burden of seniors living in nursing home/using healthcare dollars. Health- resource for everyday life; incl phys, soc, psych elements: more than absence of disease & more than obj of living.
