The assessment process: formal assessment: identify targets; things to work on, pull out language areas that are below expectations for that child, stimulability; can the child fix the error with support. If they can they are stimuable : to measure change in intervention. 7 factors considered: chronological age and functional age. The toys and reinforcements are getting effected. Functional age; matches to the child"s cognitive ability: sensory system, caregiver concerns language, psych functioning. Hearing and vision status; ie. poor vision = larger pictures for the child. Bringing the child for an assessment due to concern of expressive. Might need to have more breaks/warm up time. Steps in the assessment process tip of the triangle, you get more specific depends on the individual characteristics on how broad the assessment is. General questions asked: age/grade, diagnoses, early milestones, medical history, speech, behaviours. Delay specific to language or a broader/general delay. Causal factors ie. ear infections, other childhood illnesses.
