In groups of 3, compare and contrast the following theories/approaches in terms of. Sat vs interactionist vs complexity theory: the nature of interlanguage, the role of the l1, contributions to the linguistic environment. Compare how the role of instruction is viewed in terms of its effect, its optimal features, and its instructional design: ug vs sa vs sct vs ct. Instruction is not important in ug bc there is an innate mechanism which triggers acquisition when exposed. Important in sa; rote learning and repetition is important for the automatization. Important in monitor theory as long as input is comprehensible and meaningful. Not as important in ct; thus in ct it should be learner centered to allow for adaptation and interaction to take place. Things that need to be better explained/accounted for: Need to better account for experience in explanations of sla (better done by socially oriented theories)
