Communication takes place whenever meaning is attached to a message. By developing our diversity consciousness and our communication skills, we become more aware of the messages we are sending and receiving. Communication allows us to dialogue and to feel a sense of togetherness. Communication can also indicate our differences and separate people. Communication and culture interrelate cultures are reflected in the ways we communicate, and the way we communicate shapes our culture. Communication: the process by which people transfer information, ideas, attitudes and feelings to each other. Intercultural communication: a process in which messages created in one culture must be processed and interpreted in another culture. Symbol: anything that represents something else (verbal or non-verbal) People around the world send messages through body language. Kinesics: the study of body movements as a means of communication: body language throughout the world is culturally specific.
