Prior to this code, there was no established international standards in research. Some of the nazi positions and administrators during the nazi nuremberg trials used that to their defense. The nuremberg code has a simple 10 principles and continues to affect research guidelines everywhere. When these trials happened, the other scientists in other countries such as the us and canada largely ignored them, thinking that they had nothing to do with these experiments.
