By studying lesions to certain areas of the brain and seeing what the consequences of these are

*Just because a behaviour disappears when a brain area has a lesion does not necessarily mean
that area is directly responsible for that behaviour
Examine the behaviours by:
o Comparing it to another group
o Or that individual in their pre-diseased state (if possible, because it isn't always)
