Document Summary

Phyl 2041 lecture 9 october 9, 2018. Outline: organization of the autonomic nervous system (ans, the sympathetic division of the ans, the parasympathetic division of the ans, neurotransmitters and receptors of the ans, functions of sympathetic and parasympathetic ans. Peripheral nervous system (pns: brain, spinal cord. Sns: neurons in this system innervate muscles cells. Cns (preganglionic neuron) and autonomic ganglion (postganglionic neuron) Postganglionic neuron: ach/machr and norepinephrine/ 1, 2, 1, 2. There are main difference between the sns and ans: for the sns, there is only one neuron from the central nervous system to the effector organs. This neuron, is called the motoneuron, have cell bodies in the spinal cord in the cns. For the ans, there are two neurons connecting the spinal cord to the effector organs. The first neuron is called preganglionic neuron, whose cell body is located in the cns. The second neuron is the postganglionic neuron, whose cell body is located in the ganglia.
