All low cranial capacities - relative to humans, at least. However, the cranial capacities are 3-4x the size of miocenes. They are perhaps on our direct ancestral line. We only find remains in africa, in east or south. Unlike miocene apes, they never radiated out into eurasia. Preservation of this is important due to the fact that it greatly facilitated the quick deposition of bones. It fossilized a number of known hominin specimens. Typified by deep valleys, tectonic plates moved apart slowly. The central block collapses to create a trench. Sheer drop in the picture, and rainfall creates erosion. Bones get washed up or covered up. Runs from afar depression in ne ethiopia, south to malawi, and is typified by both inactive and active volcanoes. Rift valley is created by magma forcing tectonic plates apart, creating a collapsed area between flanks of plates.
