How should resources be allocated?
Exploring space is a way for us to explore the technology that we have access to.
Expanding and learning from the space is also very important. According to many studies,
human life on earth is not sustainable. World population is increasing significantly and
resources will be very limited in the future. Many things that humans use are developed
using materials and technology that came out from space studies. Every dollar that is
invested in research in development will produce over 7 dollars. Many companies invest
in space research and they have been benefitting from this.
There are many other reasons why aluminum is being produced on earth. It is true that
space exploration increases this amount. There are many of valuable options to continue
space exploration.
Space exploration will give 7$ for every dollar invested in 18 years. This money could be
used to help people with low resources. Despite all the bad points that have been made,
space exploration includes economic benefits. The budget for NASA is about 1% of the
US budget. Therefore, resources could be a lot better spent.
Opposition:
Resources and scientific research will be better on earth that space exploration. Space
exploration generates a big environmental impact. Sanitation, poverty, education and
many other fields have to be addressed prior to thinking of space exploration. The
environmental impact includes direct pollution from rockets. In 2017, we had 47 rocket
launches. They produce very big gaps in the ozone layer that produces cancer to humans.
There is a lot of sound pollution and many gas emissions (green house effects). There is
also the energy that is being consumed. This is a very broad frame of what space
exploration causes. There are many other concerns such as previous explorations. At its
current state, there are many issues that affect society. Such as 1 in 9 people don’t have
access to clean water. 1 of 3 don’t have proper sanitation. 2.8 billion people don’t have
access to clean cooking skills. The resources will be better spent somewhere else than
space exploration.
The government expenditure increases GDP. Therefore, 7$ produced will not exactly
make sense if there is no gain. The money is going back to engineers and development.
The one dollar that you spend on this very small range of research (space exploration)
