We all hove roles, parts to play: wedding party, orchestra, football team. Prison situation often involves hostility, abusiveness, confrontation. Roles and social reality play a vital role. Stanford prison experiment: mock prison set up at stanford with students as guards & prisoners, roles were set up at random, guards wore mirror sunglasses, guards were instructed to keep order. Acts like a mask, allowed inappropriate behaviour.
