Freud: the problem of anxiety is a nodal point, linking up all kinds of most important questions; a riddle, of which the solution must cast a flood of light upon our whole mental light . Freud believed most of the maladaptive behaviours are people trying to combat the anxiety that thoughts/desires raise in them. Ocd does not fit in here; the creator of this quantitative hierarchical model is ocd such a low base rate phenomenon that it"s hard to model. Contributes to people"s reasoning for pulling ocd out of the anxiety disorders in the dsm-5 and moving it into its own section. Genetic similarities; virtually indistinguishable in terms of genetics. You used to be unable to get a diagnosis of gad without mdd no longer a rule. Family studies show high rates of familiar collaboration people with mdd in their families will also have high rates of gad in the family.
