Biochem 4m03 lecture 27 maternal obesity and nutrient excess. Women are required to gain weight during pregnancy: The amount of weight gain is dependent upon pre pregnancy bmi. Over 50% of all pregnant women gain too much weight during pregnancy. Overweight (bmi 25. 0-29. 9) and obese women (mbi>30) had significantly increased risk for: gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, caesarean delivery, large for gestational age infants. Very soon have increased risk of giving birth to large baby. Small baby is very low even if you gain no weight. Obesity: low grade inflammation, increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines. Maternal obesity: elevated ffas, increased maternal tnfa and il6 levels. High fat diet and obesity: increase gut permeability changes in type of bacteria, parts of bacteria enter the body and activate the immune system. Tlr4: poor maternal adaptations to pregnancy. The gut microbiota as an environmental factor that regulates fat storage. Germ free mice = 40% less total body fat than conventionally raised mice.
