Introducing new employees to the organization, its philosophy, policies, rules, and procedures: purposes, clarify rules, create realistic expectations, reduce anxiety, reduce turnover, enhance organizational fit, protect from legal suits. Formal orientation: company history, company products & services, company organization, employee benefits. Services for employees: training and promotion, performance expectations, company rules & regulations. Informal orientation: on-the-job, conducted by the supervisor or co-workers, orientation usually refers to on boarding, tour of facilities. Washrooms, lunchroom/cafeteria, suppliers & equipment, etc: briefing employees prior to arrival of the newcomer.
