The internal structure of the earth can be considered in two fundamental ways. When this happens, the oceanic crust melts and forms magma. Structural layers of the earth (every point is important** know relative thicknesses**) Composed of iron (90% by weight) and other elements (sulphur, oxygen, and nickel) Composed of iron-rich and magnesium-rich silicate rocks. Can form slightly for example, if you were to put pressure on an ice cube with a fork, the ice cube will begin to form around the fork. Separates lighter crustal rocks from the more dense mantle. Crust is part of the mantle it is the outer portion of the mantle that is hardened.
