KINESIOL 1E03 Lecture 33: Organizing and Scheduling Practice
Document Summary
Preparing for learning: off-task practice considerations: motivation for learning, instructions, demonstrations, mental practice and imagery. If you don"t want to learn a motor skill, you won"t. There are fairly consistent differences between people in their need to achieve. Evidence suggests environmental factors are a major in uence on motivation. The goal is to understand the importance of the task or skill: defensive skills in sport, everyday life skills (plumbing, electrical, automotive) Success vs. failure: complex issues often dif cult to de ne success, usually mediated by the probability of success, perceived possibility of success. Even if one is highly motivated, they are unlikely to strive for achievement if probability for success is low: incentive value of success. Motivation through reinforcement: reinforcement systems are important determinants of learning and performance, can be either negative or positive. Punishment: application of an unwanted stimulus. Least effective process of reinforcement: other considerations.
