Learning disabilities, perceptual motor disorders, physical clumsiness:________________________ Include conditions such as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, brain dysfunction, dyslexia and developmental aphasia. Exclude: children with learning problems that are primarily a result of visual, hearing, or motor disabilities: of mental retardation, of emotional disturbance, or of environmental, cultural, or economic disadvantages. Diagnosis: compare expected performance to how the individual performs. Have problem in one of: oral expression, listening comprehension, written expression, basic reading skill, reading comprehension, mathematical calculation, mathematical reasoning. May appear clumsy and awkward. and appear to have a visual or motor disability. If they have both= break down activity into components of task analysis. Causes: minimal brain damage: very slight abnormal findings in eeg, slight and specific impairment. Biochemical disturbances: food colouring, flavouring, insufficient vitamin production (thought to cause). Learning environment: poor teaching, lack of motivation, poor family attitude, family difficulties. Of people with learning disability but no specific gene identified.
