Managing and manipulaing cogniions: atribuions and explanatory style. I can"t believe i played so bad, that was such a bad call. Atribuion: speciic causes such as efort, ask diiculty, ability or luck that are generated to explain an outcome, event or behavior. Atribuions = thought processes undertaken to link possible causes to an event. Atribuions can help us to understand and react to the world around us. Atribuions inluence: beliefs about our abiliies, expectaions about future outcomes, moivaion to pursue tasks. Humans are cogniive misers: tendency to make atribuions on the basis of limited informaion and personal rules rather than using all objecive informaion available. Event outcome post-event analysis atribuion/explanaion emoional reacions, future expectaions moivaion for subsequent behavior. To understand behavior, you must understand how people perceive and describe their social environment. People seek a stable and predictable environment in trying to control their surroundings and anicipate how others will act.
