PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: List Of Fables Characters, Confounding, The Control Group
Document Summary
A within subjects design allows experimenters to disregard the effects of differences between groups. This includes summary statistics, such as the mean, median, and mode: histogram: a type of graph used to report the number of times or frequency with which graphs of values appear in a data set. On the horizontal x-axis, there are bins that span 5 digits. Vertical y-axis: measures the # values in the data set that fall into a given bin: frequency distribution: type of graph illustrating the distribution of how frequently values appear in the data set. It is essentially a smooth curve that connects the peak of each bar in a histogram: normal distribution: a distribution with a characteristic smooth, symmetrical, bell- shaped curve containing a single peak. Example: iq, height, and test-scores: central tendency, mean: the average of a data set. The mean does not fairly represent accuracy: median: the center value in a data set when the set is arranged numerically.
