Could be the case that it activates either (1) a prototype or (2) a specific instance (exemplar) Depends on the information that readily comes to mind* for which theory we use to categorize parallel prototype / exemplar theory: Exemplar, comparing standard to some specific representation. Not always similarity (resemblance) based in obvious ways: categorization can also be based on deeper analysis. Ex: a mute dog with 3 legs: based on deeper analysis we know that it i still a dog. Similarity depends on context (prior knowledge influences your decisions)
