Dominant construction of racial ideology in reaffirmed in the media in subtle ways. Sports media coverage claims to be colour blind". But is dominated by white people and ignores structural forms of racism and ethnic discrimination. Sports coverage today presents that race and ethnicity do not exist; it is assumed that everyone in sport faces the same challenges and odds for success . Ex. asian athletes presented as intelligent and methodical. In canada, french canadians and indigenous athletes have faced discrimination in sport. There have been limited effort to hire more ethnically diverse sports journalists who might provide more sensitive and nuanced reporting. Other ideologies nationalism/militarism - sports used to promote nationalist superiority and militaristic ideals. Aggression - celebrates use (or threat) of violence and domination to achieve one"s aim. Consumerism - full embrace of consumerism and capitalist economic system, without any consideration of alternative systems.
