Document Summary

Jan experiment in 1979, took 300 or so kids and took them out for halloween. As part of the experiment they brought them into a home and put them into two groups, one group went in the home and the adult of the home give them candy from a big bowl. They go away to to check a phone and tell the kids not to take anymore. The second group was told they same but there was a mirror there. Group without the mirror were more likely to disobey. Social psychologist say this is what happens when we are self aware and when we are self aware we are more likely to follow orders and norms. This tells us the self has 2 processes: self that acts in the moment and a reflexive self that considers actions from the perceptions" of others. The reflexive part is the key in this experiment.
