Chapter 3: preparing an environment supportive of behaviour change. Her behaviour is difficult for staff to manage. It is important to determine changes that can be made within the environment i. e. inconsistency, punitive measures alone, positive, reinforcement alone, failing or inadequate learning or teaching. Determine purpose, mission, financial, physical, human resources. Operation and personnel, priorities, power, struggles, concerns and gripes, formal and informal strengths and weaknesses. Determine which parties will influence or impede change in behaviour. Examine contingencies of reinforcement (consequences that support and resist change) and how they might be adjusted to meet the goal you are trying to achieve. May need to adjust and support to allow for positive reinforcement i. e. nellie using bean bag chair during class for sore back instead of regular chair. Dedicated to promote and sustain constructive approach" (skill building) Dedicating sufficient time and effort relating to incorporating the circle of care i. e. nellie"s residential care givers.
