Geometric is a style of pottery; the period is named after the pottery style. Athens is the leading state: the geometric period starts here ca. 900 bce when they develop the geometric pottery style: other sites then copy it. By late geometric, other places start to develop their own distinctive styles (no longer copying athens: you can tell an argive pot from an athenian pot from a spartan pot. Geometric is a lively period: the dark ages are coming to an end, trade is up, less isolation, leads to renaissance in lg. Start seeing temples, sanctuaries, and architectural evidence: city-states start to appear and they start to produce grander architecture, competition between states helps to push progress forward. Earrings found that were buried with the inhumed woman. The technique of granulation (little grains of gold individually attached) was used during the ba but, when the palaces fell, the technique was lost. The technique comes back in the geometric.
