Bowlby: the first important relationship is with our mother/primary caregiver. If we can rely on others for love and support. Strange situation: mom and infant in playroom, mom, infant, and stranger, infant and stranger (stressful, mom and infant, infant only, infant and stranger, mom and infant. They are ambivalent when mom comes back and it takes them a long time to calm down. (c) anxious avoidant they don"t care when the mom leaves or when the stranger comes in. When mom comes back, they don"t show that they care very much at all. Responsiveness is what the parent does when the baby cries. Is it appropriate (e. g. feeding when hungry and changing when wet etc. Serves as a template for future relationships. Evident in times of stress or conflict. On a normal day it doesn"t show very much. It really surfaces when the person is in physical or emotional need. Mapped attachment style processes onto adult romantic relationships.
