Brief overview: taking the pulse of the ield of assessment. *standardized assessment is an industry it may not be measuring what it actually says its measuring. Not enough research to support if standardized tests are valid. We do not have good tools for evaluaing where young children"s development is at!! Current standardized tools cant monitor efects of intervenions. Norm-referenced (standardized test, only types of assessment that are acceptable. Compares children to same age peers (compares groups of children) Doesn"t tell you what a child should be learning! Find a correct placement for a child, idenify the excepionality, determined by the government, determining the eligibility (what kind of excepionality and what kinds of support are we giving them) Criterion-referenced (educators create their own, tests and quizzes) Based on stories, more subjecive ** not related to large group, Compares child to a set of criteria (curricular) Not as acceptable for use in establishing eligibility for programs.
