Digital design studio - week 5 part 2. The web used to depend on local fonts. Hosted fonts emerged to overcome missing fonts. Movement to host the fonts on the servers for public access. Eot - embedded open type from microsoft. Svg - scalable vector graphics from w3c. Woff - web open font format from w3c. Gray legal area: need to read tos. Violation of existing license and terms of use. Allows users to upload clips for streaming. No need for downloading the file (like in the past) Give users a good experience without sacrificing bandwidth. Upload file to platform and embed video player. Flash and realplayer helped with the issues. Each of the above had a different codec (codes and extensions) Required users to install three different player applications. Created as there was a need for a predominant format. Flash player 6 was released in 2002 and supported embedded video in swf.
