Private police and private security used somewhat interchangeably in the literature. Security and/or law enforcement bodies and services that are owned and/or controlled by non-governmental entities and made available for hire. The private security industry is broad and is comprised of many sectors that include a wide variety of different types of services. Criminology research tends to examine sectors of private police that resembles public police services. Physical measures designed to safeguard people, equipment, facilities, material, and documents against a security incident. Physical security may include perimeter and interior space protection through the use of barriers, locks, lights, sensors, and guards who are a key component of physical security, due to their high visibility. So physical security services are very much in keeping with the notion of target hardening. Fake security cameras, fake alarm triggered doors, motion sensor lights.
