Gods, noble characters, and heroes are debunked. Sophocles world was a very well ordered world. Euripides writes a lot of plays that is anti war. In aristophanes time there was wars with athens and sparta. Tragic comedies seem to be ending in a tragedy but then it is a happy ending. From tragedy we have what aristotle says is the most important a plot. The idea of reversal and recognition is very important. When oedipus took out his eyes it was for the idea that being alive and suffering is worse than killing yourself. That is why oedipus is considered heroic. Tragedy involves suffering, reversal of fortune, a fall, often it ends in death. Theme of fate and the individual in oedipus.
