Population made up of aborigines, people that were sent there as prisoners, people who came there to farm, people that came because of the natural resources (gold, minerals, etc. ) Aborigines forced off land, die from diseases europeans brought. 92% of people are of british/european ancestry: asian = 7% of population, 200,000 aborigines now live in australia. 85% of people live in cities around the coast: southeastern coast is where most people live (melbourne, adelaide, sydney) Settlement pattern like this because most major cities grew as ports during colonial times.
