Black figure (archaic) is less detailed because it"s etched out, whereas the red figure (classical) is painted so there is much more detail/naturalistic. 400 ad the people of rome absorbed the etruscan culture. Note that the greek one is older. Left is more sharp and less naturalistic. Roman civilization flourished for about 1000 years (pax romana) The biggest change in art between the 2 eras is the content. Different emperors were in charge of commissioning the art. Imperial rome about ad 324 = 2 million people ;living in it and architecture was amazing. When middle ages come around and pop. shrinks, a book written in 1827. For roman: fresco, portraiture, equestrian statue, triumphal arch. Ones with struts are marble, the sturdier ones are bronze. Romans did a bunch of portraits they are not idealized, they are what somebody would look like verism . Carved all the way around and open at the top. We don"t know who this lady is.
