Document Summary
Social construction of reality: refers to the sociological theory that proposes that the way we present ourselves in any given situation is shaped by the interactions of all our past relations and social interactions with others. Stereotypes: is a label that may have some basis in fact but that has been grossly overgeneralized and applied to a particular segment of the population or situation. We routinely use labels to categorize people, places and things. Stereotypes have been described as mental cookie cutters they force simple patterns on a complex mass and assign a limited number of characteristics to all members of a group. Prejudice: a negative attitude based on learned notions about members of selected groups, based on their physical, social or cultural characteristics. Prejudice is often a precursor to discriminatory behaviour. When individuals are prejudiced, they have preconceived notions usually negative about a group of people based on their physical, cultural or social.
