Workers" compensation rates based on # of claims filed: workers avoid filing legitimate claims (e. g. due to complexity, view as minor injuries) Workers compensation form of insurance (governed by an act of parliament) to help workers who are injured on the job to return to work. Injured workers receive: first-aid treatment on job/ local treatment facility: benefits while @ home, proper treatment for any injuries- rehabilitation. Premiums (cost of insurance) paid by employer: rate is per of payroll, compensation based on percentage of salary to specified max. No expensive/lengthy lawsuits accept wcb authority in determining amount of compensation. Wcbs once were responsible for incident prevention/ oh&s aspects(function) of workers" compensation: 1970s-80s, combined role seen as conflict of interest by govs oh&s function given to diff gov dept. Some wcbs have input in experience rating or merit/demerit program & work w/ gov in develop. programs to reduce workplace injuries.
