People spent an estimated 2. 3 trillion minutes using their wireless devices over the last year. People are becoming more dependent on their cell phones. People feel so attached to their phones that they feel anxiety without it. With cell phones being able to do so many different things people depend on them more. Using a cell phone in anyway slows down our reaction during driving. Pedestrians also have impaired visual attention when on their cell phones. Bystanders 82% are annoyed by somebody using their cell phone in public. One sided conversations cause more annoyance than a two sided conversation (study by emberson, lupyan, goldstein, and spivey) Cell phone conversations are more distracting than a typical dialogye because the conversation is less predicatable. In chapter four : mobile new media, one of the sections discussed the affects cell phones have on people.
