2013 nsduh: 15. 9% of americans > 12 yrs used illicit drug in pas year (offenders around 20- Goldstein"s tripartite conceptual model of drug related crime. Psychopharmacological crime - individuals become excitable or irrational as direct result of drugs, drug causes crime. Systemic crime - drug trafficking & distribution lead to violence or crime (eg. violence related from trying to control business of drugs etc: economically compulsive crime - crime committed to support expensive drug addiction (eg stealing) 4 categories of psychoactive drugs - all assert influence on mood, perceptions, thoughts: hallucinogens (psychedelics) - eg acids, magic mushrooms, lsd - lead to change in consciousness w/ alteration of realitysometimes hallucinations anxiety. Marijuana (weed, pot, cannabis: most commonly used illegal substance, osduhs (2013): 7% in grd 8, 25% of 10th, 39% of 12th graders, thc potency depends on type/part of cannabis plant, growing environment etc. The stimulants: (a) methamphetamine (meth: amphetamines- affect sympathetic ns, 3 categories (1) amphetamines (2) dextroamphetamines (3) methamphetamine.
