Prior to 17th century, few distinctions made in regard to rights b/w children & adults. Most education took place in form of apprenticeships. Adults shared all aspects of life w/ children. Children had no special status accorded to them due to age. Explanation for changes in way children came to be treated tied to 3 stages.
