3 levels of human experience: feelings, cognitive patterns, behaviour. Goal: figure out a way to integrate characteristics of different approaches in order to address all three levels of human experience. Now strongly established and essential to therapy. Analyzes valuable aspects of other views and determination of benefits for this client. Syncretism is not effective (= situation in which therapist selects multiple interventions with inadequate knowledge and skills) Goal: incorporate approaches using empirically evident techniques to deal with specific client and situation. Focus on difference in techniques, choosing best ones, and collecting techniques. Techniques are not necessarily attached to their associated theoretical views. Goal: focus on single theoretical approach and careful incorporation of selected techniques from other schools of psychotherapy. Therapist should respect and incorporate other techniques from other schools. Goal: integrate theories, philosophies, and techniques of various therapists.
