Psyc 201 - lecture 9 - survey research. Rely on participants completing interview/questionnaire & can be efficient way to collect massive amount of info in relatively short period of time. Rely on interviews & questionnaires to gather info about people. Self-report & finger movements (baumeister, vohs & funder, 2007) Social psychology has become science of self-report questionnaires. People haven"t done what they say they have done. They don"t always do what they say they will do. They don"t know why they do what they do. Studies measuring actual behaviour have been decreasing. Suggests that studies using questionnaires becoming increasingly more common. Population - includes all of cases of interest to researcher. Sampling frame - operational definition of population of interest. Some people will not have any chance of being selected to participate. In order for inferences to be drawn, sample must be representative of population. Representative sample - represents important characteristics of sample.
