Climate change is a real and worsening phenomenon. Many people think that the effects of climate change are restricted to the increase in the Earthâs average temperature. As we will see this semester, this is certainly not the case. Even where global warming is the main driving force, it may not be the sole or even primary factor determining whether a species will survive or become extinct. For this weekâs forum, read the blog Falling to the competition: how climate change forces species to collide and answer the questions that follow.

1. How do plants generally respond to global warming?

2. Elevated temperature associated with climate change is not the sole factor affecting plant survival. What other factor(s) may be involved?

3. If a plant fails to move to a higher elevation to adapt to warming, its chances for survival are much less than that of a plant that does. How do you explain this finding?

I choose Global Climate Change because there is so very much all of us human beings can do to help solve the problem and reduce or stop the amount of damage we are doing to the earth. I have a list of things we can all do to be part of the solution to stop global climate change beginning with limiting our emissions of greenhouse gases by moving closer to work so that weâre not traveling far distances every day, use mass transit, cycling, or walking whenever possible. Limit air travel, consume less ex: use reusable grocery bags, buy in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging we use, purchase energy efficient appliances, weatherproof windows on our homes, stop cutting down trees, and my favoriteâ¦go vegetarian. Feeding livestock to feed humans is depleting our earthly resources as trees are being cut down and land is being used to grow corn to feed livestock for human consumption and consumer demand. Going vegetarian is great for our health and the environment, itâs a win, win solution. These are just a few of the things we can do to help reduce global climate change.
