BIOM 2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Phospholipid, Mitochondrion, Cytoplasm
Document Summary
Physiology study of how the body & how it works/functions. There are 11 organ systems that make up the human organism. Organ systems do allow movement of chemicals from the internal>external or vice versa. Homeostasis the bodies ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite the constantly changing external environment. Negative feedback reducing or shutting off a stimulus (most common: blood vessels go closer or farther from skin to either cool down or warm up. Positive feedback increasing stimulus (least common: child birth (contractions) or blood clotting. Atoms are the building blocks of elements, if 2+ atoms combine they create either organic or inorganic compounds. Water: high heat, polarity or solvent properties. Carbohydrates: have c, h & o atoms. Acids: release hydrogen & are proton donors. Bases: release hydroxl ions & are proton acceptors. Lipids: have c, h & o & are. Atp: gives energy to absorb chemical reactions. Cell diversity multiple cells that vary in size, shape & function.
