The immunity to the tetanus toxin is conferred by a structurally altered toxin molecule. It has to be structurally altered so it doesn"t have any toxic affects. Attenuated vaccines contain intact but chemically killed microbes. Attenuated: inactive/killed are viruses that contain chemically killed microbes. Attenuated or non-pathogenic vaccines are at risk to revert to pathogenic ways via spontaneous mutation because they are created in the lab. Risk for some vaccines would be their potential to revert to pathogenic via spontaneous mutation. Vaccines rely heavily on the fact that your immune system has a memory. Tuberculosis (cid:498)bcg(cid:499) vaccine, polio* (cid:523)don"t show up(cid:524) for the rest of your life: tuberculosis: it isn"t a good vaccine, only used with people who are working administered to every individual or the combination isn"t available.
