Document Summary
Types of graphs (parial review: scaterplots (for correlaional studies) Take each individual person and give them a point on the scaterplot. Posiive correlaion: as variable one goes up, two also goes up. Negaive correlaion: as variable one goes up, two goes down. Scale variable (interval or raio) on the y axis. Usually use bar graphs for nominal variables. Pareto charts organize the informaion from highest to lowest: pie charts. Useful for showing nominal data, percentage data, etc. Can also be used for scale variables i. e. percentage of income in people: pictorial graphs (beware) Used in summarizing informaion: measures of central tendency, mean. Taking the sum of all the numbers and dividing it by how many numbers there are. Symbolically represented by m" in apa (american psychological associaion) format. M= x/ n i. e. spelling test scores = 4, 5, 7, 4 (n=4 and x=20, therefore m=5) Needs to be a quanitaive variable to calculate.
