The gastrointestinal tract is one of the most important entry points for infectious agents. There is a huge variety of bacteria and viruses that cause some of the tell-tale signs of gastroenteritis: nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, intestinal cramps and diarrhea. Also included in this unit are infections of the mouth and salivary glands, and viral infections that start in the digestive system and then move to other organs such as the liver.
