Document Summary

Depends on the virus - some may or may not work: cytopathic effects (cpes) - are the different changes that a virus induces inside a cell. Causes the cells to change their shape and die. Tells us that the virus has replicated and kill the cell. Sometimes can get cytopathic effect without the presence of virus replication. High temperature cells are stressed already but block virus replication. Still looks like the cell is infected by virus. Fusion of adjacent plasma cell membranes - results in a multinucleated array of cells. When the virus buds off - it takes the a piece of membrane and membrane protein and makes the cells around it fuse together. Infected cells are no longer flat but divide uncontrollably to become piles of round cells. Normal cells once they become confluent - surrounded by tons of other cells they stop growing.
