Applied anthropology: taking all of the fields and looking at them in the real world. Focuses on ordinary, functioning society, helping us to understand now normal can vary across cultures. Also can focus on social pathology, helping us to understand how it arises and how it may be resolved. Overlapping with psychology, economics, political science, history, and sociology. Global perspective addresses all times and places. The bible offered a static and fixed view that reflected the casual observations of most people. How did we get to the point that we are, understanding how we got there. Models of how we came to be are called cosmologies, which are explanations about how we came to be, precedent in every human culture linked to religious beliefs. Eg. creation story about how the world came to be. The great chain of being: why the universe is the way it is, rigid hierarchy.
