Expectation that women know how to mother instinctively. Advice books are idealized versions of parent child relationships and development. Women who maintain an identity outside of motherhood are viewed as selfish and immoral. The "good mother" not only the caregiver, but a good consumer (doesn"t just have all the toys but uses them effectively) Recognizes their own limits (only so much she can do in a day) Father: how does this term become attached to an individual: contribution of genetic materials, breadwinner role. Were more likely to see fathering as a social role. Experience of men "being" fathers (idea that someone is walking around the world with your genes) Fatherhood: cultural coding of men as fathers (norms, sanctions, etc. ) Connection to the well being of a child. Psychological father (one who may not have any connection to you, but more as a mentoring role: these can all overlap but these are diff. from motherhood.
