Document Summary

Bio lec 9 - mitochondria pt. 1 - energetics (feb 9) Response to stress (ph imbalance, too many reactive species, not enough electrolyte, concentrations) Cell death (decides how the cell dies) In order to make atp : need f0f1atpthase (protein and enzyme) Asymmetrical protein, part in matrix, part in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Concentration gradient of hydrogen ions are going in through top portion (fo unit), phosphorolation of adp to atp. Hydrogen gradient acts as energy source (potential energy) to get the roter rotating, this allows the phosphorolation of adp to atp. Structure : made of subunits - quaternary structure. Motor portion : needs energy - hydrolyzes atp , pumps h up , rotating other way, concentration gradient determines the direction of rotation. Potential energy stored in atp used to drive cellular reactions found in : bonds between phosphate groups. Cells have many different type of enzymes, since they need to accomplish many different things.
